Nursing homes ‘on the brink’ hope for more Medicaid funding

Rochester, N.Y. — Imagine going 14 years without a pay increase. Now you know what operators of nursing homes face.

It’s been over a decade since New York state increased Medicaid reimbursements, and there is fear the entire system is on the verge of collapse without an increase to the state budget.

Mike Stapleton, CEO of Thompson Hospital, has voiced his concerns over the lack of wage increases.

“60 percent of our residents are on Medicaid and those rates haven’t gone up in 14 years! What other businesses have kept things flat for 14 years?”
