Nursing home staff grieves as Lebanon facility is shuttered

LEBANON — Essex Nursing and Rehab will close next Wednesday, when the last resident moves out.
And the staff is grieving.
Employees said they received notice Jan. 22 that parent company, Chosen Healthcare based in Indianapolis, would move residents and shutter the building within a month.
But the first of 18 residents was moved the next day, and only three remained as of Friday. The last two will leave Wednesday, Essex Executive Director Evan Caldwell said.
“It’s really traumatic,” employee Cathy Baugh said Friday while packing medical records to be moved. “We’re all kind of dumbfounded. We’ve hardly had time to digest it and grieve.”
