Families heartbroken to learn of Ballou Home closure
WOONSOCKET – Family members of residents at the Ballou Home for the Aged said they were devastated and heartbroken to learn last week that the longtime city nursing home will close at the end of this month.
Suzanne Dupre, whose mother, Marguerite, has lived at Ballou for the past six years, said she was surprised to learn last Friday afternoon the facility would close. Dupre said the family was notified by the home they would have to move her mother to another location by the end of the month.
“I felt like I got sucker punched and the wind was taken out of me,” she said. “I’m worried because the Ballou Home is a wonderful place. I don’t think we will ever find a facility that is like that because it’s small, but it is very family-oriented. The residents come first.”
