California: Chula Vista nursing home to close next month and lay off 185 employees
A Chula Vista nursing home will close permanently next month, putting 185 staff members out of work and forcing dozens of patients to be relocated to other facilities.
Fredericka Manor Care Center, which is part of a retirement community operated by Front Porch Communities and Services, will cease operations Aug. 16. It blamed increased labor costs and staffing shortages for the closure.
In its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed with the state, the company reported that closure of Fredericka Manor Care Center would impact 185 employees, including 78 certified nursing assistants. It said the nursing home “will maintain appropriate staffing until all patients have been relocated to alternate facilities,” and the initial layoffs will take place on or after Aug. 13.
