Advocates urge New York to prioritize nursing home staffing crisis in 2024
Nearly four years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, families and advocates say nursing homes are still in crisis.
As we’ve reported for more than a year, a long-term staffing crisis continues to impact patients and their families, Now, those impacted say nursing home staffing needs to be a priority in health care for the Governor and State legislature as the 2024 session begins, hoping action will be taken to protect the state’s most vulnerable.
“I never thought my husband would be bedbound,” Marcella Goheen says. “He needs to be fed three times a day, he needs to be moved, if there’s no staff to do that, then what that means is, he’s not being fed, he’s not being moved. He’s been starved, he’s being neglected, he’s being dehydrated.”
